Will Smith makes rap comeback at BET Awards - two years after Oscars slap
Monday, 1 July 2024 () Will Smith has made his first major award ceremony appearance since facing widespread criticism for slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Will Smith is continuing his comeback by taking the BET Awards stage with a performance of his brand-new song. Smith performed "You Can Make It," backed by the Sunday Service Choir, Chandler Moore and Kirk Franklin. Smith kicked off the performance standing on what was meant to look like lava, surrounded by fire. The performance also featured what looked like rain, ending with the fire being put out and more inspiring lyrics rapped by Smith. The rousing performance drew lots of cheers from the audience, who gave him a standing ovation.
