How British firms help to keep Russian gas flowing into Europe
Monday, 1 July 2024 () This is the story of how an obscure company based in an office block on a quiet street in Glasgow became an accessory in Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine. It is the story of how Europe and Russia remain locked in a tense relationship of economic dependence, even as they supposedly cut their ties. It is the story of the uncomfortable truth behind why the cost of living crisis came to an end.
Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, engaged in a series of bilateral meetings during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kazakhstan. He met with Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, emphasising strong ties. Putin also discussed trade and cooperation in energy and agriculture with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Additionally, he held talks with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting economic collaboration. Putin concluded by meeting with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ahead of the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in Astana on July 4th.
