Boris Johnson blames 'Pied Piper' Nigel Farage for role in 'destruction' of Tories
Friday, 5 July 2024 Boris Johnson says Nigel Farage played a "significant" role in the "destruction" of the Tories – while taking a swipe at those who ousted him from Number 10 back in 2022.
Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, stated that the party’s general election campaign was severely impacted by the controversy surrounding several of its candidates. He described some of the candidates as “at best loopy and at worst extremely racist,” and acknowledged that this did “enormous harm” to the party’s chances. Farage estimated that around 20 problematic candidates may have cost the party up to 1.5 million votes, stressing the importance of better candidate selection in the future. Report by Covellm. A man who threw a coffee cup at Reform UK leader and Clacton MP Nigel Farage during the General Election campaign has been given a suspended sentence.
Josh Greally, 28, from Derbyshire, was arrested in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on 11 June after throwing what looked like a paper cup containing a liquid, and another object, at Mr Farage. Reacting to the verdict on Wednesday, Mr Farage said: "Frankly, if a man can threaten me in that way and not get a custodial sentence, that doesn't give much deterrence to anyone else. I am dissatisfied in the extreme."
