Tory MPs win tug of war with party officials over leadership contest timeline to replace Sunak
Thursday, 18 July 2024 Senior Conservative MPs appear to have won a battle against party officials who wanted a speedy leadership contest to replace Rishi Sunak.
MPs including shadow environment secretary Victoria Atkins, shadow foreign secretary Priti Patel and Tory party leader Kemi Badenoch have turned out in Westminster to offer their support to the farmers protest. Thousands of farmers arrived at the event in a convoy of tractors before joining a huge rally attended by celebrities including Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Jeremy Clarkson. Details of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, also known as the assisted dying bill, have been revealed.
