Starmer's box office moment fell flat but he'll be judged on his delivery
Thursday, 5 December 2024 A film set location, a big budget production, an audience bussed in - the prime minister's Plan for Change speech had all the hallmarks of big campaign moments past when Sir Keir Starmer used the event to launch his "first steps' set of promises - from cutting NHS waiting lists and setting up a new border command to tackle small boats - and his election-winning manifesto.
Government ministers arrive in Downing Street for a Cabinet meeting with the prime minister on Tuesday morning. David Lammy, Ed Miliband, John Healey and Bridget Phillipson are seen walking into No 10 ahead of the meeting with Sir Keir Starmer. It comes as the PM defends his decision to cut welfare benefits for working age people.
