It's not 'traditional' wildfire season - so why have the California fires spread so quickly?
Wednesday, 8 January 2025 () A real-life drama is unfolding just outside Hollywood. Ferocious wildfires have ballooned at an "alarming speed", in just a matter of hours. Why?
President-elect Trump: "What’s unfolding in California is truly catastrophic...The state is grappling with a major water deficit, and even fire hydrants were out of service. The governor’s response has been lacking...I had a strong rapport with him, but it looks like we’ll be the ones leading the charge to rebuild."

President-elect Donald Trump is fanning the flames of divisiveness amid the massive wildfires burning across Los Angeles ... posting a scathing critique of.. TMZ.com
American business mogul Rick Caruso has sharply criticized Los Angeles’ response to a raging wildfire, calling the city a "Third World Country" due to its inadequate preparations. Caruso slammed the local government's failure to fill water reservoirs, leaving firefighters without the necessary resources to battle the growing flames. As the wildfire swept through the western Los Angeles hillside, including celebrity residences in the Palisades area, evacuation orders were issued for approximately 30,000 residents, with many abandoning their vehicles. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, warning of worsening conditions as high winds threatened to further fuel the fire. With over 13,000 structures under threat, Caruso's comments have sparked a broader conversation about mismanagement and the city's readiness to handle such disasters.

Hollywood stars like Mark Hamill, Eugene Levy and James Woods are among the people who have had to evacuate their homes amid the wildfires that are raging across parts of Los Angeles. Starting in Pacific Palisades, fires overnight also hit parts of Malibu and Santa Monica. According to the L.A. Fire Department, the Palisades fire was zero percent contained as of Wednesday morning. Three other active wildfires in L.A. County — the Eaton, Hurst and Woodley fires — are also currently at zero percent containment.
