Keir Starmer's Trump trip is almost upon us - and the stakes could not be higher
Monday, 24 February 2025 Sir Keir Starmer will this week go to Washington to try to help broker a just peace deal for Ukraine with a capricious president who in just a week has unwound a consensus that was born from the ashes of the Second World War and had endured for 70 years.
Sir Keir Starmer slammed the previous government's "empty promises" as he set out his plans for improvements to the North of England rail system. "The last government made so many promises, none of which they followed through on. I'm only making promises where we're putting the money on the table right now," Mr Starmer said.

Vladimir Putin must be given a deadline to make progress on a Ukraine ceasefire, Sir Keir Starmer said as European allies step up plans to deploy troops and secure a peace deal. The Prime Minister said the Russian president was “playing games” and attempting to drag the Donald Trump-initiated process out to allow his forces time to continue their assaults on Ukraine. His remarks come amid new executive orders restricting transgender rights, barring federal funding for schools that allow transgender women in female sports, and limiting gender-marker changes on official documents. With Women's History Month as the backdrop, this Trump vs Reporter debate is more relevant than ever. What do you think—should gender be strictly defined by biology, or should identity be a personal choice? Watch full Trump vs Reporter debate.
