Protests flare in Manipur valley districts after fresh gang-rape claim
Saturday, 12 August 2023 Thousands of women on Friday held sit-ins in five valley districts of Manipur against the alleged gang-rape of a 37-year-old woman in Churachandpur district on May 3. The sit-ins were organised by Meira Paibis - a collective of Meitei activists which literally means 'women torchbearers' - in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts.
