One Nation, One Code: Exploring The Quest For A Gender-Just Uniform Civil Code In India
Saturday, 12 August 2023 The Uniform Civil Code, as the name suggests, refers to a single, comprehensive code of law governing matters related to marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance, and other family matters, applicable to all citizens of India, irrespective of their religion, caste, or community.
The Kerala Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution against the Uniform Civil Code, becoming the second state to do so. In the Kerala assembly, CM Pinarayi Vijayan moved a resolution against the UCC by terming it a "unilateral and hasty" action on the part of the Centre.
