Canadian PM's ailing fleet causes embarrassment after snag delays India departure
Tuesday, 12 September 2023 Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau departed from New Delhi after a technical issue with his aircraft was resolved. The delay was caused by a snag in the Airbus A310 and the unscheduled diversion of the replacement aircraft. The aircraft that prolonged Trudeau’s stay in India was named “Flying Taj Mahal” by the opposition leader Jean Chrétien in the 1990s.
Canada's intelligence agency revealed Chinese government interference in the 2019 and 2021 elections, aiming to support certain candidates. The interference, reported to the Prime Minister's Office, implicated multiple parties and targeted specific individuals. Despite concerns raised, the Foreign Interference Task Force concluded it didn't impact election outcomes. Prime Minister Trudeau and officials were briefed multiple times on foreign influence threats.
