Karnataka govt firm on tunnel roads in Bengaluru; to invite tenders soon

IndiaTimes Friday, 6 October 2023
The Karnataka government is moving forward with plans to construct tunnel roads in Bengaluru to alleviate traffic congestion, despite opposition from environmentalists. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the tender process will begin within the next 45 days, and a feasibility report will be obtained from consultancy firms. The project aims to develop 191km of roads across 12 high-density corridors. The cost of the project, which will be executed through a public-private partnership model, is yet to be estimated. Details such as the number of lanes and the extent of the network are still under discussion. Land acquisition will also be required, including parts of the turf club, golf course, and Bangalore Palace premises.
