CA firm staff not covered by ESI: Gujarat High Court

IndiaTimes Sunday, 29 October 2023
The Gujarat High Court ruled that chartered accountancy (CA) firms cannot be considered shops or commercial establishments as they are professional establishments. Therefore, their employees are not eligible for the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) benefit scheme. The dispute, which began 8 years ago with Deloitte Haskins & Sells challenging an ESI recovery notice, ended with the high court's decision, affirming that CA firms are not covered under the ESIC Act.
