Why 'Rajyapal', 'Rashtrapati' will vote in Rajasthan polls

IndiaTimes Monday, 30 October 2023
Ramnagar village in Bundi district, Rajasthan, has unique names on its voter list, including "hicort" (high court), "Collector," "Rashtrapati" (President), and "Rajyapal" (Governor). These names have a complex social history, as the Kanjar tribal community, to which many villagers belong, faced criminal profiling during British rule. To escape this stigma, community members took names that hid their links, often influenced by the media and politics of the time. However, with improved conditions for the Kanjar community, newer generations are adopting more conventional names.
