Decide Shiv Sena disqualification pleas by December 31: SC to Speaker

The Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra assembly speaker to decide on the petitions seeking disqualification of MLAs by specific deadlines. The court stated that allowing the proceedings to linger would undermine the sanctity of the anti-defection law. The speaker's counsel argued against fixing a timeframe, as it would set a wrong precedent. The court ordered the speaker to decide on the petitions by December 31 and January 31 for different factions.
