Furnish details of donors & aid to parties, SC directs EC

IndiaTimes Thursday, 2 November 2023
The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to provide details of donors and donations to registered political parties since 2018 in sealed cover within two weeks. This comes as a result of petitions challenging electoral bonds on the grounds of violating voters' right to know the sources of funding for political parties. The court clarified that its previous order did not specify a time limit for collecting data on donors, and criticized the Election Commission for not seeking clarification if there were any doubts.

J&K Set for Historic Polls: ECI Announces Assembly Elections After Decade-Long Wait| Peoples’ Voice

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a pivotal development for Jammu and Kashmir, scheduling assembly elections to be held in three phases starting September 18, after a decade of administrative control. This long-awaited decision has sparked a wave of anticipation among locals and political leaders. Residents like Waseem Hassan and Javed Ahmad welcome the return of local governance, eager to address regional issues directly through elected representatives. However, political reactions are mixed: the PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti, has criticised the short campaign period, while the BJP views the announcement as a clear path to victory, accusing the PDP of making excuses. The last assembly elections in 2014 saw a brief PDP-BJP coalition, and the new polls aim to restore political stability and local autonomy in the region. #JammuKashmir #ECIAnnouncement #AssemblyElections #HistoricPolls #JandKPolitics #Election2024 #LocalGovernance #PoliticalChange #PDPvsBJP #ElectionCampaign #JammuKashmirVotes #DemocracyInAction #PeopleSpeak #KashmirPolitics #ElectionUpdates ~HT.97~PR.152~ED.101~
