The Supreme Court of India has criticized the Army's denial of women officers' promotions to the rank of colonel, calling it "arbitrary." The court has directed the authorities to reconvene the special selection board within two weeks for their promotion. The court stated that the application of a cut-off for considering Confidential Reports (CRs) for empanelment as colonels was arbitrary and went against the Army's policy and previous court judgments. The court also rejected claims of inadequate vacancies for accommodating the officers.
