Saturday, 4 November 2023 A sailor was killed on Saturday in an accident involving a Chetak helicopter during its ground taxi maintenance at the naval air station INS Garuda at Kochi. A board of inquiry has been ordered to probe the accident in which the sailor, leading air mechanic Yogendra Singh, was killed at around 2 pm on the runway at INS Garuda, which is adjacent to the Southern Naval Command headquarters at Kochi. βThe accident took place on the ground... the chopper was not flying,β an officer said.
Several parts of Kerala were hit by torrential rains and gusty winds, causing flooding in Kochi and surrounding areas. The downpours led to traffic snarls and uprooted trees across the state. Thiruvananthapuram has been experiencing heavy rains since Monday night, with streams overflowing in villages due to continuous rainfall since early morning.
