Soon, smart card call facility in Maharashtra jails

IndiaTimes Saturday, 4 November 2023
Smart card phones will be introduced in jails across Maharashtra, replacing the old coin box phones. The system, introduced on a pilot basis at Yerawada Central Jail in Pune, allows inmates to make calls to three verified phone numbers. The calls are monitored and automatically disconnected after 10 minutes. The system has been successful in reducing incidents of mobile phone smuggling and has provided prisoners with a means to keep in touch with their families during emergencies.
