The demand for tracing family roots among Marathas with Kunbi lineage has increased in Maharashtra since the government moved ahead with a quota for Marathas. Prakash Appaso Helavi, a member of the Helavi tribe, has been receiving numerous requests to provide information related to births and deaths in families and maintain family records dating back centuries. Social media groups have also been formed to help people identify and contact the Helavis for family history narration.
