Constitutional court must avoid fixing timeline for hearing cases: SC

IndiaTimes Sunday, 12 November 2023
The Supreme Court of India has stated that the Constitutional Court should avoid setting fixed time limits for case disposal, unless the situation is exceptional. The court made this statement while dismissing a plea requesting a fixed time frame for the disposal of a criminal matter. The court emphasized that due to the enormous backlog of cases in high courts, some delays in the disposal of petitions are unavoidable. However, the court also mentioned that if there is an urgent need, the concerned bench can be approached for immediate action.
