Aluva rape, murder case: Kerala court sentences convict to death
A court in Kerala has sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl. The special POCSO court judge gave the highest punishment to Ashwaq Alam, a migrant labourer, on Children's Day, which also marks the 11th anniversary of the POCSO Act. The victim's parents were present in court when the sentence was pronounced. Alam had argued that he was the only one caught in the case, but the court found him guilty of all 16 charges. The girl was abducted, raped, and killed on July 28, and Alam was arrested based on CCTV footage.
