The Kendrapada municipality in Odisha has changed the name of a crematorium from 'Brahmin Samsan' to 'Swargadwar' after facing criticism for being exclusive to Brahmins. The decision came after locals and Dalit leaders raised concerns about caste discrimination. The civic body has now allowed all Hindus to perform the last rites of their kin. The change in name and policy has been welcomed by Dalit leaders and locals. A similar case was seen in Tamil Nadu.
