West Bengal: LoP Suvendu Adhikari writes to ED director, I-T, Health ministry, alleges probe in purchase of PPE kits during Covid pandemic
Sunday, 26 November 2023 Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging a financial scam in the purchase of PPE kits and other medical equipment by the West Bengal Health Department during the Covid-19 pandemic. Adhikari has requested a probe by a central agency and highlighted the recent FIR registered by the ED in connection with an alleged scam in the supply of oxygen in Mumbai. The ED is expected to register an ECIR in this matter.
Recent bypolls across seven Indian states resulted in significant gains for the opposition INDIA bloc, which won 10 out of 13 assembly seats. The Congress party secured victories in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the Trinamool Congress swept all four seats in West Bengal. The BJP won two seats, including one in Madhya Pradesh. These results are seen as a boost for the opposition and may indicate shifting political dynamics ahead of future elections.
