Elon Musk advised against using electronic voting machines (EVMs) due to hacking risks, sparking debates on their security amid irregularities in Puerto Rico's primaries. However, India defended its third-generation M3 EVMs as tamper-proof, with no connectivity and oversight from IIT experts and the Election Commission. The Supreme Court issued directives to further strengthen EVM security while rejecting demands for 100% VVPAT verification.

At a recent event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recounted the events of June 4th, the day election results were announced. "When results were coming out on 4th June, I was busy with work. Phone calls started coming in later. I asked someone, "numbers are fine, tell me EVM zinda hai ki mar gaya," Modi said, referring to the opposition's continuous scepticism about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Modi accused the opposition of trying to undermine faith in India's democratic process. "These people (Opposition) had decided to ensure that people stop believing in democracy and democratic process of India. They continuously abused EVM," he remarked. He mocked the opposition's stance, suggesting that they were silenced by the results. "I thought they would take out the funeral procession of the EVM. But by the evening of 4th June, unko taale lag gaye. EVM ne unko chup kar diya," he said, emphasising the robustness and fairness of India's democracy. Modi expressed his hope that the controversy over EVMs would subside, at least for the next few years. "I hope I won't hear about EVM for 5 years. But when we go into 2029, perhaps they will again harp about EVM," he predicted, concluding with a strong statement: "The country will never forgive them."
