Mizoram NGOs stage protest seeking rescheduling of vote counting date

IndiaTimes Friday, 1 December 2023
Members of Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) protested across the state, seeking a change in the date of counting of votes for the state assembly polls. Demonstrations were held in Aizawl and district headquarters. NGOCC blamed the Election Commission for remaining silent despite appeals to reschedule the counting date as it falls on a Sunday, a sacred day for Christians. The committee had also discussed the issue with poll panel officials in Delhi. The demonstrations aim to safeguard the Mizo community and their religion.
