Can a woman be booked in rape case? Supreme Court takes up plea
The Supreme Court seeks response from the Punjab Police regarding a petition by a 62-year-old woman who is booked on rape charges. The woman's daughter-in-law filed the complaint after getting married to her son through a video call. The woman's advocate argues that a woman cannot be booked in a gang rape case based on a previous ruling by the Supreme Court. The petitioner's anticipatory bail was rejected by a Gurdaspur sessions court and her plea for pre-arrest bail was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana HC.
