28,522 murder cases registered in India in 2022, 78 every day: NCRB
Monday, 4 December 2023 In 2022, India witnessed a total of 28,522 FIRs for murder, with the highest number of cases motivated by 'disputes', followed by 'personal vendetta or enmity' and 'gain'. The murder rate per lakh population across the country was 2.1. Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of FIRs, while Sikkim had the least. Delhi registered 509 cases of murder. Jharkhand had the highest murder rate, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan fared better in terms of crime per lakh population. The majority of murder victims were adults, with men constituting about 70% of victims.

In a devastating road accident today, at least 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Among the deceased were three women and one child, police reported. The double-decker bus, which was en route from Bihar’s Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early this morning. The force of the collision was immense, causing several passengers to be flung out of the bus, police stated.
