468 people took their lives every day in 2022: NCRB data

According to the latest government report, daily 468 persons took their lives in 2022, with one-third of them being daily-wage earners, agriculture labourers, and farmers or cultivators. The report also reveals that the rate of suicide per one lakh population has increased to 12.4 in 2022 compared to 10.2 five years ago. Among the major cities, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai reported the highest number of suicides, accounting for almost one-third of all such deaths.
