Sonia won't make me PM: Pranab told daughter Sharmistha after 2004 drama
Tuesday, 5 December 2023 "In Pranab, My Father: A Daughter Remembers", Sharmistha Mukherjee reveals new details about her father's political life, including his unfulfilled ambition to become India's prime minister. She discusses his response when asked about his chances of becoming the PM in 2004 and his lack of disappointment over Sonia Gandhi's decision to choose Manmohan Singh. The book also sheds light on the personality cult around the Nehru-Gandhi family and Rahul Gandhi's political immaturity. It will be launched on December 11.
Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) on Saturday. The decision, proposed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and seconded by Gaurav Gogoi and Tariq Anwar, was unanimously approved by the MPs in the Central Hall of Parliament. In her address, Sonia Gandhi urged party MPs to be "watchful, vigilant, and proactive" in Parliament. She stressed the need to hold the new NDA government accountable, prevent the ruling establishment from disrupting parliamentary proceedings, and ensure proper debate and consideration of legislation.

In a strongly worded letter to Punjab voters, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using βhateful, unparliamentary terms to target either a specific section of society or the opposition.β Singh's letter comes ahead of the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for June 1, urging voters to protect democracy and the Constitution from what he describes as a despotic regime attempting to impose dictatorship in India. Singh criticised Modi for indulging in what he called the most vicious form of hate speeches, which he deemed purely divisive. He accused Modi of lowering the dignity of public discourse and the office of the prime minister.
