Women's representation in Indian police falls short of 33% target: Home Ministry report

The percentage of women in the police force in India has increased from 5.87% in 2013 to 11.75% in 2022, but it is still far below the target of 33% set by the Union home ministry. As of January 2022, there are over 2.4 lakh women police personnel, with the majority serving as constables. The states with the highest number of women police personnel are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The home ministry has issued advisories to increase the representation of women in the police force and create more women police stations.
