In a case reminiscent of the movie 'Special 26', a gang of eight people posing as income tax officials recently raided the home of a businessman in Sion and seized Rs 18 lakh. The gang was arrested shortly after with the help of CCTV footage. One of the arrested men, Rajkumar Gujjar, was a friend of the victim's grandson and had been lured into the scheme by the promise of a 10% commission. The main accused, Sushant Lohar, pretended to work in the I-T department and received a tip about the victim's family receiving Rs 10 crore in cash. The gang even prepared a fake panchnama and told the family to await an I-T notice. The police are still searching for the stolen money and have seized a car and a fake identity card used in the crime. The gang members also had photographs of themselves wearing police uniforms, which they claimed were for a crime serial. The complaint was filed by the daughter of the businessman, Shrilata Patwa, and Rajkumar Gujjar was a friend of her son. The gang entered the flat with fake ID cards, confiscated the family's mobile phones, and convinced them to hand over their valuables and cash. The family had saved Rs 18 lakh for a wedding. When they realized they had been duped, they contacted their chartered accountant, Abdul Faiz, who informed them that the I-T department does not conduct raids in this manner. The Patwa family lodged a complaint of cheating, forgery, and criminal breach of trust. The police traced the gang through CCTV footage and arrested them one by one.
