2011-20 warmest decade on record, extreme weather events increased: WMO
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released a report during the UN climate conference (COP28), stating that the decade 2011-20 was the warmest on record. The report attributed the warming trend to rising concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHG), leading to extreme weather events and sea level rise. It also highlighted the accelerated rise in the global mean sea level, mostly due to ice mass loss from the Greenland ice sheet. Additionally, the report mentioned the cyclone 'Michaung' that caused havoc along India's eastern coastal cities, and the success of international action in reducing the Antarctic ozone hole.
