Gujarat's garba gets Unesco's intangible cultural heritage tag
Thursday, 7 December 2023 Garba, the folk art of Gujarat, receives the intangible cultural heritage of humanity (ICH) tag from Unesco. The effort to get the ICH tag started in Vadodara, Gujarat's cultural capital. A dossier was prepared by research scholars from Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates the nation on the global recognition of garba. Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel hails the Unesco ICH tag and credits it to the importance given to heritage under PM Modi's leadership. Garba is the 15th element from India to receive the ICH tag.
