IndiaTimes Thursday, 7 December 2023
Andhra Pradesh airports, including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Kadapa, and Tirupati, have accumulated over 520 crore losses between 2020-21 and 2022-23. Vijayawada alone posted 203 crore losses, followed by Rajahmundry (135 crore), Tirupati (129 crore), Vizag (31 crore), and Kadapa (25 crore). However, Vizag airport managed to turn a profit, reporting 2.4 crore in 2022-23 after losses in the previous years. Despite growing passenger numbers, the airports are struggling due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The APATA president suggests scheduling more flights during regular business hours and boosting the growth of airports in tier-II cities like Vizag and Vijayawada with viability gap funding.
