World Bank launches comprehensive programme to combat air pollution crisis in India

IndiaTimes Saturday, 9 December 2023
The World Bank has launched a multi-faceted program to curb the impact of ambient PM2.5 pollution in India. The program includes airshed management tools, State-wide Air Quality Action Plans, and a Regional Airshed Action Plan for the Indo-Gangetic Plains. Recent data shows unhealthy levels of PM2.5 exposure for every individual in India, leading to diseases like lung cancer and heart disease. Air pollution in 2019 caused 1.67 million deaths and economic losses of USD 36.8 billion. Secondary PM2.5 emissions contribute to the widespread impact of air pollution.
