Sword of honour for farmer's son at IMA passing out parade
Saturday, 9 December 2023 Gaurav Yadav from Alwar, Rajasthan, won the Sword of Honour and Gold Medal at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) passing out parade. He sought inspiration from his brother Vineet Kumar, an Army Naik. Yadav cracked the National Defence Academy exam on his last attempt and won the President's Gold Medal. He lied to his family about failing the IIT entrance test and joined a college in Delhi University before entering the NDA. Yadav will join the 1/11 unit of the Gorkha Rifles regiment.
The 25th anniversary of the Kargil War is commemorated by a motorcycle expedition undertaken by 12 coursemates of Captain Vikram Batra, alumni of the Indian Military Academy's 101 Regular Course. Departing from Chandigarh, they pay homage to fallen comrades and heroes who served during the conflict, symbolising the sacrifices made to protect national sovereignty. On Day 2, the expedition reached Udhampur. Traversing the rugged Kargil terrain, their journey echoes the battles fought and lives lost in defence of the nation, highlighting the invaluable contributions of India's armed forces.
