Post-Covid tourist footfalls up, but Goa losing charm among foreigners
Sunday, 10 December 2023
Goa's focus has shifted from international tourists to domestic tourists, with the number of domestic tourist arrivals remaining steady while international tourist arrivals have dropped significantly. In 2018, 70.8 lakh domestic tourists visited Goa, compared to 9.3 lakh international tourists. Last year, there were 70.1 lakh domestic tourists and only 1.7 lakh international tourists. The delay in e-visa rollout for British nationals and conflicts like the Ukraine-Russia conflict and hostilities in Gaza have contributed to the decrease in international arrivals. Despite the shift towards domestic tourism, smaller hotels that cater to foreign charter operators are still struggling.
