Union health minister defends the change in the National Medical Commission's logo to feature Dhanwantari, stating it is part of India's heritage. The logo was originally based on the international symbol for medicine and featured the staff of Aesclepius with a snake wound around it. The Indian Medical Council Act of 1956 was repealed in 2020. Despite objections, the logo of the National Medical Commission was changed to include a photograph of Dhanwantari.
