Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that a decision on reverting to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) will be made during the budget session in March. The government received the report of the Subodh Kumar committee comparing OPS and the New Pension Scheme (NPS). The NPS, introduced in 2005 by the Vilasrao Deshmukh government, has led to protests across the country. Employee unions are concerned about the market-linked risk to their pension fund and the 10% employee contribution.
