DMK mantri convicted in graft case; loses seat, post

The Madras high court has convicted DMK leader K Ponmudy in a corruption case, resulting in his immediate disqualification as MLA and minister. The court will announce the quantum of jail term on December 21. Ponmudy's wife, P Visalakshi, who was also convicted, will be summoned on the same day. The case pertains to a period from 2006 to 2011 when Ponmudy was the minister for mines & minerals. Judge found that 65% of their wealth was disproportionate to their income.
