IndiaTimes Thursday, 21 December 2023
Supreme Court's disposal of pending cases scaled a new high as the 34 judges, including CJI D Y Chandrachud, disposed of 52,191 cases as against 49,191 cases registered with the apex court this year from across the country. Last year, SC had disposed of 39,800 cases as against 36,565 cases filed. Data available showed that case disposal, which had plummeted to 20,670 and 24,586 in the two Covid affected years of 2020 and 2021, has since picked up, registering healthy disposal of 39,800 cases in 2022 and a steep increase to 52,191 cases in 2023.
