Judge calls for 'new beginning', Kolkata lawyers end boycott

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay's visit to the Calcutta High Court Bar Association office prompted the association to end their boycott. The boycott was initiated after Prosenjit Mukherjee, a member of the association, was disrobed and ordered into the sheriff's custody by Justice Gangopadhyay. However, the 'civil arrest' was stayed by a Calcutta HC division bench. The bench of Justices Harish Tandon and Hiranmay Bhattacharyya added that restraint and humility was necessary for judges to command respect
