IndiaTimes Friday, 22 December 2023
Twenty-two cases of the JN.1 sub-variant have been detected in India, with 21 cases in Goa and 1 case in Kerala. No clustering of cases has been observed in Goa, and all infected individuals have recovered without complications. The JN.1 variant causes mild upper respiratory tract infection with symptoms like dry cough, sore throat, and fever. In November and December, samples were sent to INSACOG labs for whole genome sequencing. The scientific community is investigating the variant, and states have been advised to strengthen surveillance systems and testing.
