The incident occurred during extensive search operations to apprehend terrorists responsible for ambushing and killing four soldiers in Poonch, approximately 200 km away. This marks at least the fourth foiled infiltration attempt in the Poonch-Rajouri region since late May, with previous instances leading to the death or capture of intruders, including the apprehension of three terrorists on May 31 with a significant cache of arms, explosives, and suspected heroin.
The forest department in Nainital has called for the assistance of the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army to combat a relentless forest fire that has been raging for over 36 hours, consuming numerous hectares of lush greenery. Helicopters have been deployed by the district administration to aid in firefighting efforts. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced plans to convene a meeting to address the escalating situation of the Nainital forest fire in Haldwani district.
