India registers 628 new Covid cases, 1 death in 24 hours
Monday, 25 December 2023 As of December 24, the health ministry has reported 63 cases of the JN.1 Covid variant in India. Goa has the highest number of confirmed cases at 34, followed by Maharashtra (9), Karnataka (8), Kerala (6), Tamil Nadu (4), and Telangana (2). Virologists suggest that the JN.1 variant is gradually spreading across states and may replace XBB lineages as the predominant strain causing Covid-19 in India. NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul said last week that the scientific community closely investigating the new Covid sub-variant and stressed the need for states to ramp up testing.
