Over 3,200 applications for transgender ID cards are pending, exceeding the 30-day issuance time. The National Portal for Transgender Persons has received 24,115 applications and issued 15,800 certificates. Maharashtra leads with 2,478 certificates, followed by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Sensitization programs aim to reduce the pending applications. Census data reveals a significant number of community members yet to be motivated to apply. Transgender-specific medical services require a transgender identity certificate, while general medical services can be availed through Ayushman Bharat empanelled hospitals.
