Daily Covid cases rise to 797, a 7-month high; 5 more deaths
Friday, 29 December 2023 India reports highest daily Covid-19 infections in over seven months with 797 new cases and 5 fatalities. Daily cases rise gradually due to JN.1 variant and cold weather conditions. Previous peak was 752 cases on December 22. In total, over 4.5 crore people infected and 5.3 lakh deaths in four years. Recovery rate at 98.8 per cent. 220.6 crore vaccine doses administered. JN.1 variant not associated with increased severity, but long-term complications remain a concern.
A new, fast-spreading COVID-19 variant named JN.1 now makes up 44% of all cases nationwide, more than doubling its share from the week before, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lilia Luciano reports.
A new intranasal vaccine developed by researchers at the Wuhan lab has recently been unveiled, promising a novel approach to combating infectious diseases. However, this breakthrough has also sparked significant controversy and concern. While the vaccine’s potential to offer a more accessible and efficient method of vaccination is hailed as a major advancement, its origins and the circumstances surrounding its development are raising alarms about a possible new health crisis. Critics worry that the technology used in this vaccine could inadvertently lead to another pandemic-like scenario if not carefully monitored. As the world cautiously watches, the vaccine's rollout is stirring a heated debate about safety, preparedness, and the ethical implications of such advanced biological research.
