The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reported a 17.9% increase in UAPA cases in 2022, with Jammu and Kashmir having the maximum number of cases. Advocate Prashant Bhushan raised concerns about 'arbitrary' listing of UAPA cases involving lawyers and journalists in a fact-finding report on Tripura riots. Kashmiri journalist Irfan Mehraj got arrested for alleged 'secessionist agenda'.
