Monday, 1 January 2024 Lt-General Navin Sachdeva has taken charge as the General-Officer-Commanding (GOC) of Nagrota-based White Knight Corps, also known as 16 Corps, succeeding Lt-General Sandeep Jain. A defence PRO in Jammu said Lt-Gen Sachdeva, previously stationed at the Army headquarters in New Delhi, assumed command on Monday, and said it was an honour for him to take over the charge of an elite formation with a rich history in Jammu and Kashmir.
Continuous heavy rainfall has battered numerous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, compelling the Union territory administration to take precautionary measures by closing schools across the Kashmir valley and Reasi district, as reported by officials. The persistent downpour in recent days has inflicted severe damage in various regions. Flash floods and landslides, triggered by the torrential rain, have affected parts of Poonch and northern Kashmir, resulting in damage to both public infrastructure and private property.
