Truckers protest 10-year jail for hit-and-run cases
Truck and bus drivers are protesting against the provision of up to 10 years jail for hit-and-run cases. The protests are happening across some states. Truckers and transporters organizations are appealing to the Centre to address the issue before it escalates. The largest truckers' body, AIMTC, has written to the prime minister and the home minister expressing their concerns. The provision in the new law has become a cause of concern for truck drivers. Trucks have been stranded in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan.
